During the outbreak, all the forms of teaching and training that need presential work were deeply affected. The impossibility of accessing laboratories, workplaces, and all of the practical classes in VET will mean a significant loss for the personal growth and skill development of the learners. The necessity of improving specific programs for specific departments’ needs has arisen to minimize learning losses and spatial dependence. In the transition towards a post-pandemic world, it is likely that the digital learning experience will generate innovations in terms of teaching and learning.
This extraordinary situation is an opportunity for VET providers and learners alike to develop their digital competence. A majority of respondents to the recent European Commission survey call for support to develop simulation environments / virtual reality for VET-specific learning content. EC published documents for supporting the transition of digital learning during and after the pandemic on vocational education including creating on an IT platform (e.g. EPALE) a VET Section for Vocational Online Open Courses (VOOC), virtual simulation systems for VET, EU VET Channel on TV or YouTube. It will provide flexible learning opportunities for disadvantaged students as well. These products will create a sustainable investment and support educators, teachers for the teaching & learning processes at school by avoiding physical dependence.
Our project creates a remote, time and cost-effective innovation in vocational education with the outputs (digital learning & teaching environment in vocational education and digitalized course modules), the experience and applications it will provide. It will enable teachers and vocational education professionals to use new tools and test the hybrid learning environment by improving their digital education skills. They will create flexibility in terms of learning and teaching and will minimize teaching and learning losses.
